Children & Adolescents

If you’re a parent seeking  support for your child, I provide psychological intervention to help with: Low self-esteem, anxiety, traumatic exposure, grief and loss, boundary setting, identity exploration, difficulties with friendships, and the impact of parental separation.

As a psychologist trained to work with children and adolescents, I provide a therapeutic approach combining Child Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), Parent Skill Trainingand Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), to meet the unique needs of children.

How therapy can help?

Therapy can be a powerful tool to help children navigate the challenges they face. Therapy offers a safe space to explore their feelings, develop new skills, and build resilience.

Through evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), children learn practical strategies to manage negative thoughts, regulate emotions, and respond to challenges with confidence. Child Centered Play Therapy is an excellent evidenced based approach that helps children with issues such as anxiety, trauma, stress, emotional regulation, and social development by giving them a creative and engaging way to express themselves and explore their thoughts and feelings, making it easier to work through complex emotions that may be difficult to put into words.

Therapy also supports the family unit. By working collaboratively with parents, I help parents develop consistent strategies and communication techniques that strengthen bonds and provide a stable foundation for a child’s growth. Over time, therapy empowers children to feel more in control of their emotions and better equipped to face life’s ups and downs, and it enables parents to feel that they can better support their child through difficult moments.

Each child is unique, and our therapeutic work will be tailored to their individual needs, ensuring they receive the support and understanding they deserve.

How can psychological therapy help?

Emotional Resilience

Psychological therapy helps children develop tools to better understand and manage their emotions. For those experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, or stress, therapy offers practical strategies to reframe negative thoughts and cope with overwhelming feelings. By fostering emotional resilience, young people can approach life’s challenges with confidence and a greater sense of control.

Stronger Relationships

Many children struggle with navigating friendships, family dynamics, or social interactions. Therapy provides a safe space to explore these issues, helping them improve communication skills, set healthy boundaries, and build stronger connections. Collaborative sessions with parents can further enhance family relationships, creating a supportive environment for growth.

Life Transitions

Major life changes, such as parental separation, starting a new school, or entering adolescence, can feel overwhelming. Therapy equips children with the skills to adapt and thrive during these transitions. By addressing their specific concerns and empowering them with coping mechanisms, therapy helps reduce stress and promotes a sense of stability.

I work with those aged 6 and older.

The length of therapy depends on the child’s specific challenges and goals. While some simple issues can improve in a few sessions, others may require longer-term support. The recommendations for number of sessions will be discussed with you after our initial appointment. Progress is regularly reviewed to ensure the approach remains effective.

I use a range of therapeutic methods, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for practical skill-building, parent skill training, and Child Centered Play Therapy for children to express and process emotions and thoughts.

Parental involvement is often beneficial, especially for younger children. Collaborative sessions can strengthen family dynamics and provide strategies to support your child at home.
